Greater Colombo faces water crisis :

The Kelani River is the main water source for the Ambatale reservoir.

An official from the National Water Supply and Drainage Board said the drought has caused a plunge in the water level of the river, allowing seawater to seep up to Ambatale.

He also warned that the Board will have to restrict the water supply islandwide due to the prevailing lack of rainfall.
